ART TODAY 020918 Five Sisters by Alexandra Dillon

(5) Sisters:  “I had been shopping for tools at the thrift store and saw the possibilities of working on dresses. The dress is such an iconic female image.”

A native of Los Angeles, Alexandra Dillon received her B.A. in film from UCLA, then returned to her lifelong passion for making art. Her love of Old Master painting led her to study classical realism in Florence, Italy, then New Orleans, finally settling in Venice, CA. She has since appeared in group and solo shows in Los Angeles. Her current work on found objects and paintbrushes has gone viral on Instagram and earned her an international reputation for edgy surrealism and inventive work on found objects.

TribeLA Magazine Acrostic Interview.5

[hoot_dropcap]Indulgence: What is your favorite indulgence? Do you cook? What is your specialty meal? What is your favorite restaurant in LA where you indulge yourself?[/hoot_dropcap]
I love to cook and I’m getting pretty good at Indian food. I really like the tacos from the truck on Rose in Venice, and I enjoy all the restaurants on Sawtelle.

[hoot_dropcap]Special: Who or what holds a special place in your heart? How does this factor into your creative process?[/hoot_dropcap]
People are what interest me. We are miraculous and complex creatures and that is the story I want to tell.

[hoot_dropcap]Time: What is your all-time favorite piece of writing/art/music you’ve created?[/hoot_dropcap]
I’m pretty keen on that Screaming Cleaver!
