With the brush portraits, I strive to find character and convey a real sense of the person. The works on tools are more complex and allude to inner motivations and powerful emotions. They are intended to make you think.

My characters come to me the way a novelist’s characters do: they form themselves through the creative process and tell me who they are. I strive to make each face unique and convey the life that that person has lived, solely through their look and expression.

Robert Soffian’s TribeLA Magazine Acrostic Interview
I cherish my time in the studio by myself just working. That’s the space to experiment and work out the formalistic issues I have been following. Usually I am excited by internal fixations rather than things in the objective world. I love color and movement and playing with figures in action. Also learning new techniques and discovering different ways to use materials is my joint.

Chris Bonno writes about Brett Gilbert, the writer-comedian, father, illustrator, whimsical photographer, poster-ad designer, and oil painter
I had the privilege, long ago, of seeing numerous paintings done by Brett with oil paint and a series of different sized spoons, in person, in his then small apartment while he was finishing up a few. He was creating spot-on large versions of cereal boxes from the sixties and seventies.
ART TODAY 040218 Brett Gilbert’s talent is uncontainable with no boundaries – Happy April Fools Day!
"A love for art. I hope it inspires those who have always been wanting to start painting or creating to actually pick up the brush and paint that first stroke. I'm always messaging my fellow artists to jump start their day with my trademark text MAKE EPIC ART!!!!!"
